The International 10 at Arena Naţională in Bucharest could be a failure
Yesterday Valve announced a new date and venue for The International 10. The tournament has been moved to the Romanian capital, Bucharest, for October. The event will be held at the Arena Naţională, which may become a stumbling block in the event's success.
Residents of Bucharest immediately after Valve's announcement started to share information about the current status of the Arena Naţională. Due to a lot of comments, we can conclude that the stadium was commissioned incomplete. This has led to some problems.
First, the stadium has a retractable roof, but there are open areas due to imperfect construction and unfinished work. Spectators and players will sit under the rain and wind, and it's impossible to spend 7-8 hours of a game day there in the fall. There are also problems with drainage. The recent case was during Euro 2020 when the team from Austria could not train because the whole stadium was flooded.
Secondly, the stadium is administrated by the local authorities, and Romania is a very bureaucratic country. Obtaining permits for structural changes, installing new equipment, and placement of lights can take weeks to process.
Third, the stadium is not designed for a lot of personnel. It doesn't have enough separate rooms and offices to accommodate all teams, media personnel, and the rest.
In addition to the reasons above, smaller ones have been cited. Such as the "law 4" protecting against vandalism, the bad acoustic and video equipment. But hopefully, Valve will be able to prepare for The International 10 in October properly, and it will not have to be postponed a third time.
